Ecuador Explorer and the Galapagos Islands – New for 2021 - 15 Days

On this 15-day adventure you’ll enjoy many sights in Ecuador and whilst in the Galapagos Islands seeing some of the most impressive scenery in the world.

Visit Quito City and the surrounding area. Take in Otavalo and its famous Market. You’ll travel to Cotopaxi and enjoy lunch in a traditional Inca hotel, during the tour you will see and enjoy many sights and tastes the country has to offer, including a visit to a Rose Farm, have an enjoyable Lunch in a family home and a stay in a traditional Hacienda.

You will stay in Banos and visit the city on a full day excursion, Riobamba, Cuenca and a train journey are also on this fantastic tour. We end our tour of the Ecuadorean sights at Guayaquil where we will board a flight to the Galapagos Islands for 6 days of exploring.

Day 1
Arrive Quito, Ecuador

Arrive in Quito, you will be met on arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

Included meals: None. Accommodation: Hotel (or similar). Activities: None.

Day 2
Quito City Tour

Today we embark on a City tour of Quito, you will see the sights and sounds this city has to offer on a Walking tour of the central area, and afterwards you will enjoy the City from a different perspective as you travel on the Teleferico Cable Car to view the city from above. After Lunch which is included, you will visit the Market and perhaps try your hand at bartering, we return to the hotel in the late afternoon where the rest of the evening is free to relax and enjoy on your own.

Day 3
Quito to Otavalo

Today we check out of our hotel and travel to Otavalo. During the day we will visit a Rose Farm, here you will get an explanation on the growing, packing and distribution of the roses. Today we will have Lunch in a Family Home. During the days travelling we will stop at an Alpaca Store to get to know how to spot genuine Alpaca Clothes from the Fake ones!
After a day of sightseeing, we will check into the hotel for the night.

Day 4
Otavalo to Cotopaxi

After breakfast and check out, we travel a short distance to Otavalo Market, here you will find many types of goods and food, it’s a great place to buy gifts and the prices and quality are right!
Next we travel to Cuicocha Crater Lake which at the foot of the Volcano of the same name, after Lunch, we will visit San Pablo Lake, this is one of Ecuador’s best lakes. Our travels take us next to Cotopaxi and onward to our hotel, a typical Hacienda.

Day 5
Cotopaxi to Banos

After Breakfast, we enjoy a Full Day tour of Cotopaxi, this is Ecuador’s second tallest active volcano. Once we arrive at the Cotopaxi National Park, our local guide will show you what this area has to offer, we will travel by smaller vehicles and of course by foot, to enjoy the scenery of this wonderful area. Lunch today will be taken at San Agustin de Callo in the village of Lasso, this Hacienda was built on the site of an ancient Inca palace and, from an archaeological perspective, is one of the two most important Inca sites in Ecuador. After lunch we will continue to Banos and our hotel.

Day 6
Full Day Banos

Today is a Full Day tour of Banos, the town is known for 2 things: naturally heated thermal baths and adventure sports. Situated in a stunning valley at the base of the Tungurahua volcano. Banos is a typical Ecuadorian town with its squares, gardens. With over 60 waterfalls with one in the centre of town named the Cascada de la Virgin. At the end of the town is a short but steep hike to a statue of the Virgin Mary that offers excellent views of both Banos and the Tungurahua Volcano. After a day of enjoying the sights we travel to our hotel for the night, the Abraspungo Hacienda, Situated at 2,754 metres (above sea level, each of the rooms takes its name from one of the mountains of Ecuador.

Day 7
Devils Nose Train Ride

Departing Riobamba today, we will take, without doubt, the most impressive section of Ecuador’s railway: The Devils Nose Route, this railway was built in 1899, it switches back and forth as the train travels downwards from the mountain. We visit the Inca ruins at Ingapirca, Ecuador’s largest Inca Ruins, the most important and spectacular of the ruins is the elliptical “Temple of the Sun”. Afterwards we will travel to Cuenca and our hotel for the night.

Day 8
Cuenca

After a night’s sleep, we enjoy breakfast and then visit the town of Cuenca, this is Ecuador’s 3rd largest city, its full name is Santa Ana de los Cuatro Rios de Cuenca, its quite a mouthful so everyone says Cuenca! The translation means the four rivers that run through Cuenca. We will take a guided tour of this City, where the historic centre is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch the afternoon is free to enjoy at your own pace. We will enjoy dinner together tonight.

Day 9
Cuenca to Guayaquil

We depart Cuenca today and travel to Guayaquil, during the day we will again see many different views and sights that the area has to offer, we will also visit a Chocolate Farm and be introduced to how chocolate is produced. After lunch we arrive in Guayaquil where the evening is at leisure.

Included meals: Breakfast and Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel (or similar). Activities: Chocolate Farm, Sightseeing.

Day 10
Flight to Galapagos Islands

Today we will be transferred to the airport at Guayaquil for our flight to the Galapagos Islands, we will land at Baltra Airport and after formalities, we will visit the Giant Tortoises. Afterwards we will check into our hotel for the night.

Included meals: Breakfast and Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel (or similar). Activities: Giant Tortoises.

Day 11
Tartuga Bay & Isabela Island

This morning after breakfast we will visit Tartuga Bay, here you will be able to see many Iguanas. After lunch we will join a speedboat and travel to Isabela Island, here we will check into our hotel for 2 nights.

Included meals: Breakfast and Lunch. Accommodation: Hotel (or similar). Activities: Iguanas, Sightseeing, speed boat ride.

Day 12
Tuneles

This morning you will explore the area of Tuneles on a snorkelling tour, the average water temperature is between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, (64.4f to 71.6f) you will get to see Albatross, Blue Footed Boobies, the magnificent frigate birds, whilst on the banks you can also see the tortoises, iguanas, sea lions, manta rays and penguins. After lunch you will travel to the Wetlands, here you will walk with the naturalist, viewing the unique bird species, such as common stilts, Whimbrels, white-cheeked pintails and gallinules.

Day 13
Tintoreras & Santa Cruz

This morning takes us to Tintoreras, a spectacular spot right in the bay, you have the chance to snorkel and view the Sea Lions, Galapagos Penguins, Marine Iguanas, Galapagos Sharks, White-tip Sharks, Sea Turtles, Rays, Pelagic and Reef Fish.

After Lunch we will travel back to Santa Cruz.

Day 14
North Seymour

Today we will visit North Seymour, it’s a small island that as formed by the uplift of a submarine lava formation. It was named after an English nobleman, Lord Hugh Seymour.
It’s an important fishing site for Marine Birds and a nesting site for the Frigate Bird.
Animals that you can see here are Frigate birds, Blue Footed Boobies, Swallow Tailed Gulls, Herons, Hawks, Sharks and Rays.

Day 15
Departure Day

Today its departure day, after starting the tour in Quito and travelling by Bus, Train and Boat, it’s time to depart the Galapagos Islands taking our memories home with us.
You will be transferred to Baltra Airport for your flight home, depending on your destination, your flight will take you either to Guayaquil or Quito airports to meet your International flight home.
